No Pokerpalooza, but a good start towards Big Game Championship

JD made Troy tap quicker than Cookie Monster did John Cena!

August 30, 2011 recap:

JD Deckard followed up his 2nd place finish at Pokerpalooza with a big win to begin the 4th quarter. Not only did he win the game, but he took the overall points lead.

The game was dominated the majority of the time by JD and Bryan Knepper until Troy Steffy made a rapid charge to the top of the leader board.

Dan Martin Locked In!

The gang is excited to unlock Dan!

Breaking news from AGP: Dan Martin has finally agreed to a new long-term contract which will keep him employed by the club for the next 5 years! AGP is an up and coming club with over 70,000 unique visits to their site and more than 120 facebook likes (more if Bryan would try harder). Dan Martin finally realized that keeping with the club that has made him locally famous will pay big dividends down the road.

How big?

Dan Martin Lockout Day 6; The Breakthrough!

Dan to Mexico = this?

After several attempts to reach Dan Martin, AGP is happy to finally report good news. Dan recently returned our calls and agreed to at least sit down and listen to offers. Meetings were held in an undisclosed location (likely Buffalo Wild Wings) with several unnamed members (really just JD and Troy).

What caused Dan Martin to contact AGP?

Dan Martin Lockout Day 3; The Trade

Is Dan Martin on the trading post?

AGP’s response?

Not Happening. Dan Martin is asking a very high price (some say too high), but negotiations will continue. It is of the opinion of most poker insiders that Dan would lose playing time if traded this close to another quarter.  Learning another game can be hard. He has spent nearly 4 years learning the very difficult lingo of AGP – see here…AGP Glossary.

The Dan Truth: Fred Armisan captured?

Fred at a recent press conference

The ousted dictator of Labia, Fred Armisan, is reportedly pinned down in an undisclosed location in the capitol city of Fallopia.  Rebel army commander, Mohammed Klittorus, told an AGP correspondent that they have the wrinkle-skinned despot in their folds.  According to Klittorus, they are having trouble pinpointing his exact location, but are working on snuffing him out.  “Armisan has hidden himself under layers of protection, but we are working our way in, and will uncover him!” exclaimed Klittorus.  Be sure that if he is correct, and the rebels do succeed, there will be an explosion of joy in the capital city.  Stay tuned for further developments in this scintillating story.

Dan Martin Lockout Day 2; The Stall

Talks have General Lee stalled

AGP continues to reach out to Dan Martin  in an attempt to end this lockout before it begins to affect games. In the meantime, “Fairly Odd” Alan Dennis has agreed to step into the roll of columnist until this issue is resolved. Current attempts to reach Dan have fallen on deaf ears.

Dan appears to be serious about holding out for a better contract. From all accounts he is holding steadfast to the belief that he deserves the most benefits as he sees himself as AGP’s biggest ” play-maker “. Dan has stated that without his home etc. there may not have ever been an Average Guy Poker.

Dan Martin Lockout Day 1; The Hurt

Day 2

Dan Martin is a cherished and respected original member of AGP. His actions of late have dictated that a lockout is necessary for his own good. Although we hope to resolve this dispute soon, we must look at the reason behind such a drastic measure.

Mr. Martin is one of the original 3 players in the long and storied history of Average Guy Poker. He has been host to almost all events (through sickness and health). He has promoted our business and been a corner stone to our family. However, lately Mr. Martin has made what AGP considers to be excessive demands.

The Beat: It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! Nope, it’s Just a Winless Quad Steak Bryan Knepper

No cards, beats, or burrito can hold him down

Yes, it’s Quad Steak Bryan Knepper, the only AGP member without a win this season. He just can’t seem to buy one this year. Reports even say he tried to buy a win from Buzz. “Please Buzz let me buy one. You got like 7! C’mon, I really need one.” Very, very sad. Bryan is in his third full quarter as an AGP member and no wins to show for it. What is it gonna take for this guy to pull one out? Is he really just a bad player? I mean, Mark has two wins this year for crying out loud! Daggum (sorry Mark)! Well AGP fans lets get to the bottom of this. What really is the reason Mr. Quad Steak can’t find the winners circle?

Pokerpalooza wrap up

Dan's winning Pokerpalooza hand!

AGP’s 3rd major of the year, Pokerpalooza, has come and gone! A new concept in blogging was attempted for this special game.  JD Deckard and Mike Krisle “live blogged” the game as they played. The result is remarkable detail along with an actual feel of the game.

For reference JD Deckard’s post are in black, while Mike Krisle’s are grey. Neither player spoke to each other about what they were writing. The following is the actual time of the blog as it was written.

9:18 – Its Pokerpalooza baby! What’s in store for this big game? It’s been a wild quarter with multiple wins by Buzz, unfortunately, he won’t be able to finish his great quarter as he is under the weather. The KOP is not gonna make it either, so its left up to the rest of us to duke it out for the 3rd major of the year. Will Alan show he’s not just a streaky player? Will JD take down all the Omaha pots and solidify his place in AGP lore? How about the Poker God?  He is on a roll lately. Can Daggum win yet another major? Can Quad Steak finally reach the victory lane? Mark is gotta be a favorite with his recent dominant performance, and don’t count out Mags. He’s playing better than ever. One thing is for sure, it’s Pokerpalooza and we are all in. Hopefully not in first hand! Daggum!

9:19 : As much as we try to start on time, it never happens. We’re waiting on Mark and Bryan. It sucks we’re down 2 players tonight. Buzz was out early with an undisclosed illness. Troy’s absence was unexpected. His daughter was wounded and had to be taken to the e.r. Hopefully, he’ll update us on her condition. As the saying goes “the show must go on”. Delaying the game by a week was an option, but this would’ve left Daggum out for sure as he has to work next Tuesday. 38  minutes late, but finally underway…
